Nepal’s Far West is as little known as was America’s before its conquest !
Forgotten by trekkers and even its own governement, this region will enchant people who are looking for wild landscapes and to meet locals who rarely see visitors. They are more than willing to share their lifestyle if you will only try to communicate with them.
A beautiful hike along the Karnali river taking you from Simikot to the Rara lake. Far far away from the capital city, the population here lives in total autarky. The Thakuris live off bartering medicinal plants between Tibet and India because their soil is poor in nutrients. You will often find the Thakuris and their mule and goat caravans on the trails from Tibet to the southern Nepalese plains.
The Rara lake is surrounded by a dense conifer forest, what a beautiful serene site with the Himalayas to the West.
