March to May and September to December
One of the most beautiful treks in the world due to its diversity in landscapes, flora and population.
From the Marsyangdi gorges to Mustang’s eroded landscapes, the trail starts in the terraced paddy fields and elevates to the snowy peaks of the Himalayas.
The first villages we come across are populated by Bhramins, Gurungs, higher up, by Manangis, an ethnic group of tibetan origin. In the Manangi lands the temples are replaced by monasteries and Tibetan–Buddhist prayer flags; dzos and yaks replace buffaloes and cows.
From Pisang we leave the classic trail to go up to Pisang Peak’s base camp. Already, from the first rest stop we can already see a sparkling blue glacier, Annapurna’s glacier. The serac falls high up the valley make impressive sounds. Those who wish to trek to Gyaru , the night’s stop for everyone, can do so . Those who chose to continue up till the Pisang Peak base camp, 3800m will trek on an easy trail taking them to high altitude landscapes ,to be amongst the highest mountains in the world.
All along our hike from Gyaru to Manang we are followed by the view of the Himalayas leaving us with numerous chances to take great photos.
Manang is a big town which has developped rapidly these last few years. You can indulge in a good yak steak and a beer in the sun.
Hiking over the 5300m Thorong La pass will be made easier after your excursion at the Pisang Peak base camp.
Long downhill till Muktinath, part of Mustang. The landscape is now very different from the other side of the pass, we are in arid deserted and eroded landscapes. We hike through several Mustangi villages giving us a good idea of the lifestyle in this mythical region. The flat roofed houses are surrounded by their green and gold coloured fields overlooked by ocre and brown hills, a beautiful site !
