Our Story

Glacier Safari Treks is a premier trekking company in Nepal dedicated to creating unforgettable adventures in the Himalayas and beyond. With over 30 years of experience, our diverse team makes your journey safe, enjoyable, and memorable.

At Glacier Safari Treks, we pride ourselves on our multicultural team of travel experts and guides who are passionate about adventure and exploration. Our team in Kathmandu is always ready to assist you, quickly answering your queries via email or online. From the moment you arrive in Nepal, we provide a seamless experience with a complete briefing before your trek and continuous support throughout your journey.

Our trekking guides from various regions of Nepal, bring deep local knowledge and cultural insights to enhance your adventure. They are fluent in English and often French and have undergone extensive European-standard training which includes Mountain Rescue and Altitude Sickness management from IFREMMONT. With ten to twenty years of experience, our guides are devoted, professional, and enthusiastic about introducing you to the wonders of Nepal. We recruit porters from our guides’ villages, creating cohesive and supportive teams. GST equips all team members with suitable clothing, shoes, and other gear for the specific trek, and we provide complete insurance for our teams.

Glacier Safari Treks was established in 1986 by Catherine Joriot, a French national, and Dhruba K.C., an experienced Nepali guide. GST has proudly led trekkers and travelers across the Himalayan trails of Nepal, India, Tibet, and Bhutan for over three decades. Our journey began with a shared passion for trekking and a deep appreciation for the Himalayan region’s cultural diversity and natural beauty.

In 1992, GST guided the first French trekkers in Mustang. In 2008, in collaboration with Nomade Aventure, we led the first trekkers in the Tsum Valley. Each year, we offer a unique discovery trek, exploring new itineraries led by experienced guides and porters. We provide a discount in exchange for your insights, ideas, and photos of the journey.

We offer a variety of travel options including classic trails, easy hikes, cultural tours with specialized guides, as well as thrilling activities such as rafting, canyoning, paragliding, and cycling trips in the Himalayan region.

Experienced Team, Customized Service

GST collaborates with agencies in France, Belgium, and Quebec, organizing treks for French tour leaders. We manage Himalayan expeditions and partner with glaciologists from ICIMOD, IRD Grenoble, and Dartmouth University USA. Our expeditions include discovering new peaks like Island Peak and Mera Peak. We respond promptly to emergencies, coordinating with Kathmandu doctors and international clinics.

Commitment to Community and Environment

GST partners with Samdo Avenir on craft projects, school construction, and children's education in Kathmandu and remote villages. We also aid in rebuilding Porter villages post-2015 earthquake and support Planete Enfants against trafficking. Our team follows strict environmental guidelines and upholds sustainable practices as members of the ATR Association for Responsible Tourism.
