Itinerary Information

Up along the Kali Gandaki river valley till Muktinath, a religious landmark for Hindus world wide.

The left river bank trail avoids the dirt track and offers a spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri and of the Nilgiris. After  hiking through the terraced paddy fields you make your way from one Thakali village to another surrounded by apple and apricot ochards. Thinigaon is located in the Mustang region, known for its arrid and mineral landscapes, we are not yet in the old Kingdom which would require a special permit, but we get a first impression of the incredible landscapes Mustang offers ; ocre and brown colored hills with patchworks of millet and wheat fields surrounding villages.

Thakalis are an ethnoliguistic group from Mustang, they are traders and are excellent at what they do, numerous of the younger generations have settled in Pokhara and a few in Kathmandu

Lodges in the region are more comfortable than in other regions of Nepal, the meals, elaborate. Thakalis, the ethnic group who inhabit the valley, enjoy good food and have learnt to adapt it to our tastes. Try their apple momos and apricot brandy !

It is one of the only treks in Nepal where you can, in a short hike join the road and take a vehicle to the next stop if you feel too tired. It makes it an ideal trek for beginners and brings a sense of security for the anxious trekkers.

The vehicles on the dirt track on the right river bank do not affect our trek. They are few and any motor sound is covered by the river rumble.

This trek allows us to be alongside 8000m ( 26200 ft) mountains without having to go to high altitudes nor over a mountain pass.

An ideal first trek in Nepal, even for beginners.
