The Lobuche Peak expedition is one of the finest ways to explore the majestic Khumbu region. Unlike the more frequented Mera Peak or Island Peak, Lobuche Peak presents a unique and spectacular view of the region’s high peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, and Makalu.
Starting with a transfer from Kathmandu to Ramechhap, you’ll trek through Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar and Khumjung. You will explore monasteries and soak in views of Everest, Makalu, and other majestic peaks. The journey includes crossing Renjo and Cho La passes, reaching Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Peak, and ascending Lobuche Peak. You will climb to Lobuche Peak, at 6119 meters, and end with a scenic descent through the Imja Valley, where the Ama Dablam dominates the landscape. Highlights include acclimatization hikes, views from Kala Pattar, and a visit to Tengboche Monastery.
Participants should have experience with essential climbing techniques, including the use of a jumar, descender, walking ropes, and crampons, along with proficiency in rappelling 30 meters. This will provide a safe and enjoyable ascent in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Khumbu region. The trek involves a mix of lodge stays and camping, with all meals provided except for frozen fried food.
In the early morning, we will start our journey to Lobuche by transferring from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. You can choose between taking a local bus or a private vehicle for the trip. Once you arrive in Ramechhap, you will stay in a cozy lodge and prepare for the trek ahead.
After having breakfast, our trail starts with an ascent to Jorsale at 2800 meters. We cross the Dudh Kosi River via a suspension bridge and tackle a 600-meter climb to reach Namche Bazaar. This vibrant Sherpa town is a bustling hub with shops, a post office, a bank, and a small monastery. The village offers a glimpse into local life and trading with Tibetan and Chinese goods. After a 6-hour trek, you will rest in a lodge to acclimate to the altitude. Today’s trek includes ascending 1000m and descending 350 meters.
Today we wake up to views of Mt. Kongde Ri and enjoy our breakfast. We spend the day acclimatizing with a short hike to the Sagarmatha National Park Museum and Khumjung Village, where you can see the supposed Yeti scalp and enjoy views of Everest and other peaks. On the way back, stop for tea at the world’s highest 5-star hotel. Explore Namche Bazaar, a lively hub with bakeries, cafes, and shops.
When you wake up, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful view of mountain ranges. You’ll then begin your day with a challenging climb that takes about 1.5 hours to reach the picturesque village of Khumjung, which is twinned with Khunde. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku from there. Khumjung is famous for the Hillary School and Hospital, which was established by Sir Edmund Hillary. We set up camp here. The trek to Khumjung involves a short 1.5-hour hike with a 300-meter ascent.
After leaving Khumjung, we will be heading towards Thame. Along the way, we pass by a small village known for its beautiful monastery. We take a break at a lodge and appreciate the tranquil atmosphere of this lesser-traveled destination. The trek will take approximately 4 hours, involving a 150-meter ascent and a 100-meter descent.
After breakfast, we continue our trek towards Renjo Base Camp. The trail leads to the Tibetan border and gets the views of Tibetan traders traveling to Namche Bazaar. We walk alongside the Bothe Khosi River as we ascend. Once we reach the pass, we can enjoy views of Everest, Lhotse, and the surrounding mountains. Upon reaching the base camp, you can settle into your lodge and prepare for the higher altitudes. This trek involves 7 hours of walking and a 630-meter ascent.
Today, we will be preparing for a challenging day as we cross Renjo Pass at 5435 meters. The long ascent is rocky and steep, but the effort is rewarded with magnificent views of Everest and the surrounding glaciers. The descent leads to the Gokyo Lakes, nestled at 4750 meters. The Sherpa people operate lodges in Gokyo, a trading hub, to give hikers the best services possible. The trek will take approximately 8 hours and involves ascending 950 meters and descending 600 meters.
We began with a climb to Gokyo Peak at 5350 meters. From this vantage point, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy some of the best views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After taking in the spectacular vistas, we descended and trekked to Dragnag, where we spent the night. It took us 7 hours to complete today’s trek, with 800 meters ascending and 700 meters descending.
Today’s trek takes you from Dragnag to Dzongla, crossing Cho La Pass at 5420 meters. Dzongla is located between Lobuche and Cho La Pass and is a small village with a few teahouses. It serves as a summer grazing ground for local yak herders. From Dzongla, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Ama Dablam and Taboche and a glimpse of Cholatse Lake. This 7-hour trek includes a challenging climb and descent, with a 750-meter ascent and a 600-meter descent. After the trek, stay in a lodge.
In the early morning, we will leave the trekking trail and climb on a rocky path to reach a small lake and set up our base camp. The kitchen team will join us for these 4 days at altitude. You will enjoy delicious food made by our experienced cooking team. In the afternoon, we will review our equipment and practice fixed rope techniques at the camp. The trek will take about 3 hours with a 450-meter ascent.
Today is a day for acclimatization. It’s a well-deserved rest after a long trek. Instead of hiking, we will stay back in the village and relax. You can take short walks around the high-altitude landscape to help your body adjust to the conditions. Enjoy the views and prepare for the summit attempt. We will camp overnight.
After early breakfast, we begin our ascent towards the summit. You can expect rocky sections and snow slopes of up to 45 degrees. Some parts have fixed ropes installed by our Sherpas. Our goal is to reach the fore-summit at 6119m due to safety concerns. We’ll enjoy stunning views of the world’s highest peaks, including Everest, Nuptse, and Amadablam. Afterward, we will return to base camp. The day will involve 8 hours of trekking and a descent of 900m.
We continue our journey from base camp to Gorak Shep. We will retrace our steps back to Dzongla, then descend into the Everest Valley and join the Everest Base Camp trail. We gradually walk upward via the moraine of Khumbu Glacier until we reach our long-awaited destination, Everest Base Camp. After that, we will continue to Gorak Shep and spend the night in a lodge.
Today is the day when you head towards Lobuche Peak. The path is a very steep ascent to the viewpoint of Kala Pattar (Black Rock) at 5550m. Once you reach there, you will get an extraordinary view of Everest’s icefall, the south face of Everest at 8848m, its neighbor Lhotse at 8441m, and Nuptse at 7878m. Then, we descend to Lobuche, so make sure to reach on time. You can see the glacier formed from the Lobuche peak. It takes 6 hours of trekking with an ascent of 480m and a descent of 800m.
We have a long descent from Lobuche to Tengboche, which is a trek of about 7.5 hours. On the way, we pass through Pheriche and cross the Imja Khola River before ascending to Tengboche. When we reach Tengboche, we will visit the famous Tengboche Monastery. This monastery is the largest gompa in the entire region and was built in 1916 by Lama Gulu. While there, you can also take some time to admire the views of Ama Dablam. We will stay in a lodge near the monastery.
After breakfast, we will descend through the forest, cross the Imja River, and climb back to Namche Bazaar. You can explore Namche Bazaar again if you are interested, or take a rest. Enjoy the familiar surroundings and spend the night in a lodge in this lively town. It will be a 5-hour trek with a 450-meter ascent and a 750-meter descent.
Today, we will trek from Namche Bazaar to reach Lukla. The trek involves a mix of descent and ascent, with significant altitude changes as we follow a balcony route and eventually climb to Lukla. The entire trek is expected to take approximately 7 hours, with an ascent of 700m and a descent of 1300m.
We will take an early morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Depending on the season, your flight may be routed via Ramechhap.
